Dream island with a moving history
The Republic of Cuba, consisting of the main island of the same name and the Isla de Juventud and numerous other islands, is part of the Archipelago of the Great Antilles. Havana, the largest metropolis of the Caribbean, is both a capital city and a province of the island state. Founded by the Spaniards at the beginning of the 16th century and once a flourishing commercial port, it is today the political and cultural center of the country. Havana's old town, Habana Vieja, is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Plaza Vieja and the Cathedral of San Cristobal are also main attractions, including the Capitolio, the Presidential Palace, the Revolutionary Museum and the Gran Teatro de la Haan. Cienfuegos is located on the Jagua Bay in the south, whose historical center is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Isla de Juventud is known as a youth, gold or treasure island. It is lined with picturesque pine-lined beaches.
