Boarding card

The boarding card also serves as an onboard payment method for drinks, excursions, gratuities, etc. All expenditures are added to your onboard account via  your boarding card, meaning that you don’t need to carry any money with you while on board.

 

Booking/travel documents

When you receive your booking confirmation and travel documents, please be sure to check that all information is correct and complete. You are required to inform us immediately if you find any inaccuracies or should any travel documents be incomplete.

C

Cabin description:

All cabins are comfortably furnished and feature a shower/WC, bathrobe, hairdryer,

2 single beds or one French bed, telephone, TV, DVD player, full minibar (for a fee) and a drawer with a lock.

 

Cabin service:

Our cabin service is available to you during the restaurant opening hours. Please find the range of products and prices in the menus, which are situated in the cabins.

 

Changes to the route:

We have the right to make necessary changes to the route, if they are reasonable and do not affect the character of the holiday.

 

Children and teenagers:

Children that are not three months old at the time of embarkation are not permitted. On all routes with three or more consecutive days at sea, children must be at least 12 months old at the time of embarkation. On board there is no special children’s and teenagers’ entertainment program. No childcare service is available.

 

Credit card payments:

You are welcome to pay for your cruise in advance with VISA, Mastercard or American Express. For credit card payments, a credit card charge will apply to booking made before 31.12.2017, which must be paid by the customer. The customer will be informed about the charge before booking. From 01.01.2018 the credit card fee for payment with VISA and Mastercard will no longer apply. Payments with American Express will also be free if these credit cards are regulated by law. FTI reserves the right to continue charging a fee for unregulated credit cards. To pay for your expenses on board, please read the items 'onboard currency' and 'onboard card'.

 

Customs regulations:

Please make note of the customs regulations of each particular country. In some countries the import of food, plants and animals is generally forbidden. Archaeological founds cannot be exported.

Daily program:
Information about the ship and the routing, as well as the program containing all activities for the following day is delivered to your cabin in the evening of the previous day.

Dress code:

For day-to-day life on board the ship we recommend wearing sports-casual clothing and comfortable shoes, as well as bringing jumpers and jackets, as the temperature can vary greatly between the indoor areas and outdoor areas. We ask that you do not wear bathing costumes in the restaurants, and for special occasions we recommend formal wear. Please also wear suitable clothing for excursions and for the gym.


Drinks:
Coffee and tea from the self-service machines in the buffetrestaurant Verandah are free of charge and available all day while opening hours.

Electricity:
In general 220V AC with 2-pin European plug; bathroom also has 110V for electric razors.


Embarkation/disembarkation:
You should time your arrival and departure so that you arrive at the ship at least 3 hours before embarkation/disembarkation. Check-in ends one hour before the ship is put out to sea. To ensure that you have enough time for disembarkation and the completion of necessary formalities in each country, we ask that you plan your return flight or onward journey with plenty of time to spare. In general you will receive extensive information about the disembarkation in the evening, 2 days before the end of the cruise.


Entertainment and fitness:
During your cruise you can make use of a small selection of fitness equipment, a sauna and an outdoor pool. A hairdresser, massages and doctor are available for a fee. An evening show provides daily entertainment.

 

Excursions:

Get to know different countries and people with our excursions, discover cultural treasures, experience untouched nature and much more! The experienced tour guide team in the excursion office on board with provide you with advice and assistance and will help to find the right trip for you. Please note that onshore excursions from the first two ports of call on every cruise must be booked seven days in advance so that we can guarantee you a place on your chosen excursion. To do so, please fill in the onshore excursion booking form, which you will receive with your travel documents, and send it completed and signed back to us.

Health advice/vaccinations:

Before booking a cruise you should get information in good time about vaccinations and protection from infections, as well as other prophylaxis measures. You should also consider consulting your doctor.

 

 

I

Immigration rules:

The following immigration rules apply to German, Austrian and Swiss citizens. Citizens of other countries should contact the appropriate embassies or consulates.

If the ship only calls at ports within the EU, Norway or Iceland, a national identity card is sufficient, provided it is valid for at least 1 month (Montenegro: 3 months) after the cruise has ended. For all cruises that call at ports outside the EU, Norway or Iceland, every passenger requires a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after the cruise has ended. Children also need their own passport. It is not sufficient for a child's name to appear in their parents' passports.

Immigration rules for Cuba in winter 2016/2017: Upon arrival to Cuba, a tourist visa is required in the form of a tourist card, which can be purchased through the Cuban embassy. If you book the flight to / from Cuba via FTI Cruises GmbH, the tourist card is already included and will be sent to you with the travel documents. For the cruises from / to Havana (departures 22.12.2016 to 26.01.2017) with a stay in Playa del Carmen in Mexico, a re-entry to Cuba is necessary afterwards. The necessary tourist card can then be purchased on board the Berlin. The cost of about €20 will be charged to the onboard account. Anyone entering Cuba is required to prove that they hold a health insurance cover valid for Cuba for the intended length of stay. According to information available from Cuba, only the private travel health insurance companies that cover Cuba are recognised. We recommend that you check with your insurance company or the responsible consulate in good time about the current immigration requirements.

Correct April 2016 – Subject to change and errors. The current entry regulations of the countries being visited apply during the cruise. Every passenger is required to obtain the necessary information from the relevant authorities before the cruise.

 

M

Meals:

Full board consists of breakfast, mid-morning snack (pizza, pasta, bouillon), lunch, mid-afternoon snack (coffee/tea and cake), dinner and midnight snack. Full board begins at dinner time on the day of embarkation and ends with breakfast on the day of disembarkation. There are two dining sessions in the evening in the main restaurant. The first session is 6–6.30 pm, the second is 8–8.30 pm. If you have special dietary requirements, please tell us this when you book. We will try to meet your wishes. Subject to change.

 

Medical assistance:

There is a doctor on board our ship. For opening hours please consult your daily onboard magazine. The fees are added to your onboard account. We recommend a separate receipt to give to your health insurance provider. Please ask your insurance company for more specific details. We recommend that you obtain health insurance for foreign travel and travel cancellation insurance.

Onboard currency:

The onboard currency is Euro. In addition all common credit cards are accepted (VISA, Mastercard, American Express). Neither traveler’s cheques, Eurocheques nor Maestrocards are accepted.

 

Onboard entertainment:

Performances and events take place in the Sirocco-Lounge. Live music is played at the Yacht Club in the evenings. For more detailed information please consult your daily schedule on board.

 

Onboard manifest:

Before your cruise we require certain information about you in order to produce a passenger manifest. This ensures faster processing by governing bodies for the ship at the various ports and shortens waiting times. The information is subject to data protection laws. We ask that you send us your onboard manifest at least 6 weeks before departure.

Passengers of limited mobility:

Please note that our MS Berlin cruises are generally not suitable for people with reduced mobility, unless the product description contains any other information. On request we will be happy to send you more precise information about such limited suitability, taking your requirements into account. For safety reasons, blind and deaf guests can only travel if accompanied by someone who can respond to the warning signals on board in the event of an emergency and provide appropriate assistance.

 

Passport:

German, Austrian and Swiss nationals require a passport that is still valid for six months after the end of the holiday. Invalid travel documents can lead to the refusal of carriage or substantial costs for the passenger. For all other nationals, we ask that you ask your relevant consulate about entry requirements. Children require their own passport. An entry in the parent‘s passport is no longer valid.

Pets:

Pets are not permitted on board.

Photographer:

Please note that on board of the MS Berlin film an photo shoots take place by an on-board photographer. If you don’t want to be directly photographed or filmed, please let the photographer know. It cannot be ruled out that you will appear indirectly in the context of a group recording of activities on board or excursions in the picture or video. These pictures and the film can be sold as part of a photo DVD to all participants of the cruise. these pictures are for private use only.

Pregnant passengers:

Pregnant passengers who at the time of embarkation are in the 21st week of  pregnancy must present a medical certificate of fitness to travel. Carriage is not permitted from the 22nd week of pregnancy.

S

Safety:

Each passenger is required to take part in sea emergency training which takes place at the start of the cruise. This is to make you familiar with safety arrangements on board the ship. The ship complies with all international standards of the IMO (International Maritime Organization).

 

Sea sickness:

Sea sickness has become a rarity due to the stabilizers that the ship has become equipped with. Should you nevertheless suffer from sea sickness, please notify reception or contact the onboard doctor.

 

Services not included:

Please note that the following services are not included in the travel price: arrival and departure to the cruise, parking space, shore excursions, drinks, personal expenditures, gratuities, pre and post programs.

 

Smoking:

Smoking is only permitted in specially designated areas on the outside deck.


Souvenirs:

When buying souvenirs on land please be aware of import conditions and the protection of species law.


Sun loungers and deck chairs:

For passengers there are sun loungers and deck chairs available free of charge and without prior notice. Pool towels are also provided.

T

Telephone calls on board:

Your cabin is equipped with a telephone, making calls from it will cost approx. €5 per minute. When we are close to a port, you will be able use your mobile phone at the normal roaming rates of that country. If the ship is out of the range of the telephone masts, you can use our own onboard network to make calls from your mobile. Please refer to onboard information or your travel documents to find out the prices, which can be very high.

 

Tips

At the end of a cruise it is customary to give a tip as a thank you for the good service provided by the crew. You are free to decide how much tip to give. The usual amount is €7 per guest, per night. As there are many unseen helpers on board who contribute to your holiday needs, for your convenience we will simply charge the recommended amount to your onboard account each day. The ship's management will share out this amount among all employees who have served you. You can of course adjust or cancel the amount on the final bill of your on-board account as you see fit without giving reasons.

Visa regulations

For cruising the Red Sea with the BERLIN, a visa fee of €25 is required and payable in cash directly at the airport of Hurghada or Marsa Alam for European, Swiss and Russian passport-holders. For all other nationals, we ask that you ask your relevant consulate about entry requirements.

 

W

Wi-Fi and internet access

There are several internet terminals in the library on board, which you can use for a fee. Price is approx. €0.30 per minute. The cost will be charged to your onboard account. We also offer various Wi-Fi access packages, which you can purchase on board at the reception.
